Vectorform Debuts New Video Streaming Experience for IPL

Posted by Administrator – May 20, 2011

Vectorform-IndiaPremierLeague-IPL
The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a cricket league for Twenty20 competition that is reshaping the game in more ways than one, and setting a new standard in sports broadcasting via design and development from Vectorform. This year we’re helping with a brand-new streaming experience for the league, and the crowds are going wild. What’s so amazing about this player? It uses HTTP dynamic streaming, for self-adjusting quality based on a user’s internet connection. It’s just like a DVR, letting a user pause or rewind the live game. It supports live HD streaming—a first in India, and video ads can be embedded in the live stream—providing the most immersive cricket experience this side of the stadium.

Physical Rehab via Kinect for Xbox 360: make it happen in Haiti!

Posted by Administrator – May 17, 2011

Vectorform_Kinect_Rehab_Demo
I love Vectorform because:

  1. We built a demo for physical rehabilitation via Kinect for Xbox 360
  2. That demo stole the show at a tech demo day by Kaiser Permanente focused on gamification because it presented a fun way to support physical rehab and exercise for kids, and tracked response accuracy
  3. The mastermind behind using Kinect for literacy in South Africa made us aware of the Haitian Amputee Mother’s Alliance
  4. Asked if we could possibly help, I presented their work providing prosthetic limbs and rehabilitative services for victims of the earthquake to my boss, who gave me a two-word answer:
  5. Do It.

Our work for Fiat, ala GQ’s Best Stuff

Vectorform-Fiat--NYC-1

Fiat has been on the move, launching the Fiat 500 Hatchback and revealing the Cabrio at the New York Auto Show. We’ve been moving and shaking along with them, as they take a creative approach to marketing the vehicle, allowing consumers to touch and interact with the vehicle in completely new and eclectic ways. We debuted a Kinect-powered giant mosaic for Fiat at the North American International Auto Show. Then we did it again at The FADER FORT by FIAT, complimented with a Windows 7 Digital Kaleidoscope. Now those big digital installations have made their way to the big city courtesy of Vectorform’s Karl Steckling, Kevin Foreman and Frances Calandra.

“Do you have a personal Catan glory moment?” Why, yes we do—and here it is via Bleep Bloop and College Humor! 30 Rock’s John Lutz, Bleep Bloop’s Jeff Rubin and Pat Cassels, and an audio cameo from Vectorform’s own Frances Calandra make this one for the record books. Our Microsoft Surface adaptation of Mayfair Games’ Settlers of Catan made a big splash with game-lovers around the world, and we were thrilled to see such an enthusiasm from a squad claiming “two thumbs down is a good thing.” We give this one two thumbs up, and we think John might be onto something with Scotch ‘n Settlers!

“The Ultimate Unboxing” on The Totally Rad Show

Posted by Lindsay Ruthven – April 6, 2011

TRS1
“I heard a crack.” We had a few reasons to get excited watching Alex Albrecht, Dan Trachtenberg and Jeff Cannata from The Totally Rad Show unboxing our Surface and playing with our apps. We’ve unboxed so many Surface units we could do it our sleep—that’s right, the power button is on the bottom—but this is a new favorite.

Ever wonder what it takes to keep a multinational company full of artists, engineers, and oddballs moving along at a good pace? We’re reading about Kinect improving literacy in South Africa

Posted by Administrator – March 31, 2011

Not us, but pretty amazing. TechNet reports on use of Kinect to support learning in Lakeside Park Primary in Vryheid, KwaZulu-Natal. Kinect technology has certainly been a game-changer–for Microsoft, for digital experience folk like us, and now for young learners in a small school in South Africa.

Vectorform’s work hits the big screen on the high seas! Our digital postcard application for Royal Caribbean made its debut in Royal Reunion, a short film directed by James Brolin, and got prime placement on the Royal Caribbean Ocean View Films site. The Windows 7, multi-touch enabled video postcard creator is featured in the first scene, but keep your eyes peeled for additional cameos from Dean Cain, Shrek, and the director–who plays the family patriarch celebrating a 40th wedding anniversary at sea.

Virtual Colonoscopy Viewer at TechFest, experts weigh in

Posted by Administrator – March 17, 2011

Colon cancer is the third leading cause of cancer related deaths, but the death rate is impacted by the ability to quickly and efficiently screen for polyps before they can develop. The Virtual Colonoscopy (VC) Viewer is a revolutionary collaboration between Microsoft, Intel, Vectorform and Massachusetts General Hospital, winning top honors at RSNA 2010.

Vectorform’s multi-touch user interface allows physicians to view and manipulate a 3D rendering of a patient’s colon. Using software to translate a series of CT scans into a 3D representation, the VC Viewer provides physicians with life-like imagery and seamless navigation using natural gestures including pan, zoom, pinch, traverse and rotate. This Natural User Interface (NUI) solution was highlighted at TechFest 2011, which brings Microsoft researchers and Microsoft product teams together in Redmond, WA for an event where attendees see the innovative technologies emerging from Microsoft’s research efforts.
